All
of our kilts are made from either a 13oz medium weight or 16oz heavy weight
worsted cloth, which ensures that the pleats stay as sharp as possible
and that the kilt has a full "swing". They are traditionally hand sewn
by fully qualified kilt makers, who have many years of experience in the
trade.
Most kilts are pleated to sett as standard, which means that the pattern of the kilt is repeated at the back, to mirror the front. Some tartans can however be pleated to stripe, where a predominant stripe is chosen to run down each pleat. Please enquire for further details, or to check if the tartan you choose can be made in this way.
A standard gent's kilt is made from 8 yards of material. This can be decreased or increased according to individual requirements.

We
realise that boys can grow very quickly, so would always make our kilts
with 3/4 pleats under the apron (to allow the straps and buckles to be
moved easily) and add a 2 or 3" hem, as standard. This would allow for
growth of a few inches, both outwards and upwards! This can be discussed
in more detail based on individual orders.
A standard boys's kilt is made from 4 yards of material. This can be decreased or increased according to individual requirements.
